Water Music  (1717)


        Water Music  (1717) is three suites of instrumental music that was commissioned 
    by German-born King George I three years after his inauguration.  It was played from 
    a barge that floated down the Thames river following the royal barge with the King on 
    July 17, 1717.  Many Londoners took to boats to hear the concert, supposedly filling 
    the river.
